Counseling On Genital Plastic Surgery
There is diversity and richness in the many and varied characteristics of human genitalia. This is good. God made us all different.
Should you be changing the way you think and feel about yourself or making changes in the physical characteristics of your body? This is not an easy question to answer and each case will be different. How far should a woman go to feel good about herself? Isolating body parts and fixing them is becoming commercial like having the kitchen counters replaced...
Are extreme makeovers, face lifts and fat suctioning enough now? Recently, the counseling professional must also deal with the latest thing in cosmetic surgery, which focuses more intimately on a woman's genitals. Forget insight and self-acceptance....forget the beauty and functional range of individual anatomical differences, altogether. . The pitch is that you should look younger, feel prettier and have better sex, if you?ll just fix the most private part of your body. The methods to do this is surgical with either vaginoplasty, labiaplasty and. or hymenoplasty. You will be shown before and after pictures should you pursue this. Be prepared. Should you do this? Do you really need to have your vagina tightened and your labia trimmed?
What is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that will reduce and/or reshape the labia minora - the skin that covers the female clitoris and vaginal opening. Sometimes, women with large labia can experience pain during intercourse, or feel discomfort during everyday activities or when wearing tight-fitting clothing. Still others may feel unattractive, or wish to enhance their sexual experiences by removing some of the skin that covers the clitoris. The purpose of a labiaplasty is to better define the inner labia. During this procedure the urethral opening can be redefined, and if necessary improvements to the vagina may be made. The problem can be caused by genetics, sexual intercourse or difficulties in childbirth.
What is vaginoplasty?
Vaginoplasty is a standard gynecologic surgical procedure. The technique results in a virtually bloodless procedure performed on an outpatient basis. It tightens vaginal muscles and surrounding soft tissues, by reducing excess vaginal mucosa (vaginal lining). The result is an immediate decrease in the size of vaginal muscles, resulting in more friction during sexual experiences.
Women who have experienced multiple childbirths often report that vaginal muscles tend to experience enlargement due to stressful expansion during the delivery. The result can often be loose, weak, vaginal muscles. Even after exercise (Kegal), it is possible that the condition of the vaginal muscles may not improve. Many women find that while the experience of childbirth may be the most rewarding of their lives, sometimes the after effects for both their sexual partner and themselves is much less satisfying (e.g feeling of being all stretched out).
Vaginoplasty, sometimes referred to as rejuvenation of the vagina, is a procedure that may serve to correct the problem if there are stretched vaginal muscles resulting from childbirth(s), and for some, may be a direct means of enhancing one's sexual life once again. The procedure typically tones vaginal muscle, resulting in greater contraction strength and control, thereby permitting greater sensation during sexual experiences.
What is a hymenoplasty?
hymen repair surgery (hymenoplasty, hymenorrhaphy) or restoration of the hymenal ring is a surgical procedure which may be done in a physician?s office. It is a stitch and repair job of the broken, hymenal membrane. Usually, it is done for religious and cultural reasons.
The hymenal ring normally gets disrupted after a woman has had sexual intercourse or even after strenuous physical activity or tampon use. Sometimes, for cultural or other personal reasons (for example, an upcoming marriage), a woman would like to restore a more intact, tighter hymenal ring. Using a special surgical technique, the hymen may be repaired and tightened to a more intact, virgin-like state in most patients. Because of a wide variation among hymems and vaginal states, the surgery, if any, may be customized to the individual needs and expectations of the patient, as discussed during any required pre-surgical consultation and thorough gynecological examination. In most cases, the surgery is virtually undetectable after complete healing, and patients are very pleased with our final results. But as always, like the vaginoplasty and the labiaplasty, it is a matter for counseling first. Is it really necessary?
Many women report they wish to be young, feel good about how they look and be more self-confident. Some women report they are tired of not feeling anything at all. The hope here is for a better sex life which may be tied in, intimately with their self esteem. Many doctors and sex educators doubt the benefits of such surgeries and emphasize the dangers. Experts have stated that there is no evidence that a vaginoplasty and, or labiaplasty will improve a woman?s sexual satisfaction. Even worse, there may be medical complications or permanent damage.
The mainstreaming of pornography and pictures of female genitalia on the internet has made women more conscious of their genitals in all of their permutations and combinations. Is this forcing women to adhere to a single model of appearances what may be shown on porn sites?.
By nature, alone, there is appreciation of and enormous variability in size, color, shapes and symmetry to female genitalia. Should differences be appreciated or pathologized by before and after pictures from a plastic surgeon's office or on his or her website?
Individual or couples counseling with Dr. Keys may help to decide on these critical issues what, if anything, should be changed. There are many issues (i.e. interpersonal, hormonal and metabolic) to consider besides whether to have surgery or not. Plastic surgery consults with a licensed, plastic surgeon, pictures and other diagnosatic, pre-surgical work-ups may and frequently should be independently encouraged as part of this assessment.

Mostly, Dr. Keys works as a Consulting PhD Doctor, usually from a distance, with and through a proper local anchor physician to order blood work. Advanced treatment protocols may develop from the advanced blood chemistries he requests. If you have no local doctor, Dr. Keys finds one through an affiliate physician network. His work is global, oftetimes involving patients from other countries as well as all over the continental USA. There are many tests and treatments to help people; Oftentimes, anchor physicians are not familiar or comfortable with them. Dr. Keys teaches and helps to direct individual patients AND their physicians with laboratory-work for these treatment options. This is measured work and clinical biochemistry. Opinion evidence standards are not employed here since this is a measured and laboratory-based or empirical study of the patient. Numbers are sought from the results of these tests that, usually, "...jump up and grab you..." that dictate what is needed and how much. Patient-advocacy is frequently involved to get advanced and necessary clinical biochemistries ordered and to help interpret them in filed reports..Chat room capabilities in voice or text, besides email, may be employed. This may include conference calls online. In a perfect world, if your physician knew everything, people like Dr. Keys would not exist. Physicians themselves are caught frequently in the traps of their own standards of care that may be very limited in many cases. Methods used by Dr. Keys are rational, scientific and disciplined.
